Applying In Person
First, bring a copy of your military discharge (DD214). Even if you think the VA has a copy of this form, it is the most important qualifier and information source for VA officials. Bring it to prevent delays.
Second, bring your income information. Means-testing may be a required part of your application process and answer given during this part of the interview process are later vetted with Social Security and the IRS. Accuracy will ensure proper eligibility determination.
Know your schedule. It's no secret that the VA system is overloaded; however, the VA is currently trying to accommodate all requests and can often schedule veterans in less than a week. If they have an opening you will want to make sure you know what dates work and what dates do not.
