The Stars and Stripes Salute Program
"We are very proud of his service and wanted to do something to show it," Gerald Levinson said.
The Stars and Stripes Salute program started in the fall of 2013, created by Patrick Driscoll, a young Melrose resident who was interning last summer for Mayor Rob Dolan. The idea was to create an affordable way for residents to say "thank you for serving" in a tangible way.
Every Salute places a appropriately sized U.S. flag at one of the dozens of locations around Melrose to include the famous veteran memorials, all school buildings, City Hall, recreational parks and more. Participants will receive notification of the flag's placement and an official certificate from the city.
The cost for one U.S. flag complete with certificate and acknowledgement on all of our social media platforms is $40. For a complete set consisting of a U.S. and POW/MIA flag, the cost is $100. All funds help support our city's flag replacement program, a year round effort to fly high-quality flags throughout the city.
