Our office presented several highlights from the current year:
1.) Passage of the veteran relief/memorial restoration tax check off initiative
2.) The acceptance of Wakefield as a "Purple Heart" community
3.) A 99-percent reimbursement of Chapter 115 expenditures
4.) More than 450 contacts with veteran and their families to include assistance on more than 90 VA claims
5.) Continued improvement in outreach and expanded office hours
Also discussed at the Selectmen's meeting monday was the beginning stages of a proposal to receive an estimate of repair costs for the Wakefield Civil War Memorial. Initiated by new VSO Alicia Reddin, this estimate would begin discussions about possible grant/funding mechanisms to make the necessary repairs.
More to come on this effort in the coming months.
