Like most municipal departments, we do not have overwhelming budgets. Veteran benefits delivered under Chapter 115 make up the vast majority of our budgets and are required my Massachusetts General Law. The good news on this front is that if we do our jobs correctly, the cities and towns we present get reimbursed 75 percent of the monies given to local veterans to increase their quality of life. In the past18 months, our district has received more than 99 percent of the reimbursable money through state cherry sheets.
It's important to note that Chapter 115 clients all live under 200% of the Federal Poverty level and are carefully vetted in accordance with 108 Code of Massachusetts regulation.
Wakefield is the first budget we will present. Included is the last three fiscal years with the final column representing our request to the town for the fiscal year starting on July 1, 2014.
Supplies are the items we use to file, store, track and execute veteran benefit delivery.
Veteran Benefits are delivered to Wakefield veterans and their families in accordance with Massachusetts General Law. Since we started our district, we have more than doubled the benefits delivered to Wakefield veterans.
Memorial Day and Veterans Day line items are monies set aside to assist local veteran organizations in their effort to hold events honoring veterans on these important holidays. Expenditures include renting space, flowers, flags and other associated costs. When possible, we request in-kind donations to limit these costs and the Wakefield community is more than generous.
