Locally, many efforts continue to assist and honor disabled veterans. This Sunday, October 12th, Saugus resident Marvin Pena in conjunction with the Boston Wounded Vet Run will host a 5k fundraising run. More than 200 people to include representatives from 28 states have agreed to take part in an effort to help local disabled veterans increase their quality of life. In its first year, the Boston's Wounded Veteran 5k is quite a success and we plan to show our support by running (or walking!) to honor our wounded.
And the Boston Wounded Vet Run, now entering its fifth year, plans to build on past successes and honor not three, but four seriously wounded veterans from the New England area. This year's motorcycle run, which draws thousands of bikes annually, is tentatively scheduled for May 9, 2015.
While we always caution people to donate to their veteran causes wisely, local options for helping veteran do exist and do provide excellent resources for wounded veterans in need. As the country dedicates its first national monument to our disabled brothers and sisters in arms, we ask they you dedicate whatever you can to honor these heroes who gave so much.
