VSOs will be required to pass knowledge tests designed to ensure a couple of things
1.) VSOs can competently and fairly deliver local social welfare benefits called Chapter 115
2.) VSOs can help veterans navigate the VA process to include application and follow up
3.) Ensure veterans statewide can get the same level of service no matter what town they live in
With certification pending, days 3 and 4 of the annual training conference focused on improving VA skills to include healthcare, pension, aid and attendance, DIC and disability.
In the conference's final moments, the state outlined the coming training and certification, requiring that VSOs pass online exams and skills tests within the next year to stay accredited.
Additionally, VSOs will be mandated to attend training with many of the block focusing on necessary skills like dealing with suicide and homelessness. To track this, the state plans to issue VSOs cards they must swipe during training to ensure attendance and knowledge building.
It's definitely and interesting and exciting time to be a VSO.
